Well well. After playing hooky from most of his impeachment trial, so he could play at being a talk-show TV darling, Rod Blagojevich has just been UNANIMOUSLY voted out of office.
Who's surprised?
From the eternal Friday of my Scotch tape mind...
[sigh]
Well, it took the rest of the afternoon & into the evening, but I made two pizzas, and they were delicious, surprising, and filling. However I completely forgot to pick up the camera again, after my earlier post, so you're just gonna have to take my word for it. Sorry. I got kinda caught up in the cooking.
For the crust I started with a basic white pizza dough recipe, substituted in a little whole wheat flour for part of the white, and added some blended dry herbs. I used this in both pizzas, but that's where the similarities ended.
The thin-crust pizza was pepperoni, with a red sauce I fortified with simmered tomato paste and merlot; I used shredded fontina (Danish, actually, not Italian) instead of mozzarella. It was fantastic.
With the other half of the dough, I did a deep-dish pizza with locally-made Italian-style sausage. I made a white sauce primarily out of pinot grigio and half-and-half, and that's a darn tricky thing to do if you've ever tried it. It really wants to curdle. (Make a roux first, and build from there.) Dollop of pesto sauce, sprinkling of rosemary leaves, lots of stirring & simmering. The crust I baked partway in a well-oiled cast-iron skillet, removed it, split it in half like a layer cake with a long bread knife, put the lower half back in the pan, layered in the white sauce, the sausage, and half of the cheese (a nice rustic white farmer-style cheese). I could've also added some sliced mushrooms at this point, but held off because our teenagers say they don't like them. Then, replaced the top crust, and distributed the rest of the shredded cheese. Took a good bit longer to bake, of course, but... wow. And we still have half of that one left, portioned out & sealed up for tomorrow; by the time the deep-dish was done, we'd already eaten the whole thin-crust.
If you've read this far, I salute you. If I do this again, I promise (really!) to remember the camera.
It matters.

Report: Jobs Considering Liver Transplant
Irate Apple CEO Tells Press To Leave Him Alone When Asked About Latest Medical Report
Jan. 16, 2009
As if Steve Jobs and Apple haven't commanded enough headlines during the past couple of weeks. Late Friday, Bloomberg reported that Jobs is considering a liver transplant.
In a telephone interview with Bloomberg's Connie Guglielmo, Jobs refused to comment on his health status: "Why don't you guys leave me alone--why is this important?"...
...because you are, Steve. C'mon. Still, I am completely sympathetic to your desire for what privacy you can still manage. Be well.
